Real-time tracking and providing accurate delivery times have never been more important, and FedEx understands this. One of FedEx’s top priorities is giving their customers accurate information, and they can accomplish that with their new machine learning technology.

Launching in early October, FedEx’s new system will use data from past deliveries, weather forecasts, traffic statistics, and many others to generate delivery times. The system hopes to provide more accurate estimates than their current method, which only uses data from FedEx facilities, and nothing else.

They’ve been testing out methods since January, and eventually, FedEx’s goal is to display estimated delivery dates before consumers even purchase from them.

As COVID-19 continues to trigger delays for the freight industry, having real-time tracking data is incredibly important for businesses to function properly. And at the end of the day, customers just want to know when their shipments will arrive.

CEO OF FedEx Dataworks, Sriram Krishnasamy, says that they handle “between 17 and 19 million packages a day,” and deliver “across the world to 220 countries.” With that responsibility, FedEx finds it incredibly important to help their customers plan their supply chain better, and they wish to do so with their new software.
