CMA CGM has once again been hacked a year after its previous data breach. The French company gave a statement to reassure customers that they have “immediately developed and installed security patches” according to CGA CGM’s spokesman.

Unlike the ransomware attack of September 2020, the current hack was done by hackers who wanted to demonstrate the carelessness of big corporations in protecting user privacy. The hackers are threatening to release the data if CMA CGM does not upgrade its data security systems. Data beached consists of customer names, employers’ names and their position in the company, phone numbers, and email addresses.

While a 2020 ransomware attack on CMA CGM resulted in the company suspending operations for 2 weeks, the company claims the current crisis has no impact on its current operations. The hack in lieu of a string of hacks this year on shipping companies from carriers K-Line in Japan to Korea’s HMM.
