On Wednesday, e-commerce retail giant, Amazon, officially launched operations in Kentucky with the Amazon Air Hub after 4 years. The Air Hub will be the centerpiece to Amazon’s cargo network.
The Amazon campus is estimated to be worth around $1.5 billion dollars with a size of 600 acres. The company plans to install solar panels that will feed into the local electric grid while also hiring from the local community. The massive facility includes parking space for 100 cargo planes and a 800,000 square feet sortation building for inbound and outbound packages.
“We’re excited to get rolling in Northern Kentucky, and we’re thrilled to employ thousands of fantastic people from the area in this next-generation, highly sophisticated facility that will connect our air cargo network for years to come,” said Sarah Rhoads, vice president of Amazon Global Air.
