Amazon Seller Central has recently announced that starting on October 1st, 2021, carrier tracking information will be required. If the seller is not in the Amazon Partnered Carrier program or Amazon Global Logistics, they will need to send their information to Amazon’s warehouses. Their tracking information can be accessed through the Seller Central system, and through Amazon Marketplace Web Service.The update requires FBA sellers to provide the carrier name and tracking information during packing so that the tracking information arrives at the fulfillment centre before the actual shipment does. But why does Amazon want early access to tracking information? By providing carrier tracking information, Amazon can receive and handle inventory more efficiently, and avoid delays in the process. And by labelling and mapping packages correctly, the process can be sped up further. This affects Amazon sellers who are outside of Amazon’s main marketplace. If the seller is a part of any Amazon Partnered Carrier program, Amazon’s system will automatically generate the tracking information, so they do not need to do the extra work. Furthermore, Amazon will be implementing a new metric that measures missing tracking information and punishes failure to comply to ensure that sellers will follow their new policy.
